In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion, garlic, 1/2 cup tomato sauce, chopped basil, salt, and pepper. Mix with your hands or a spoon until the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Transfer the mixture to the prepared pan and shape it into a firm loaf.
Spread the remaining 1/4 cup tomato sauce evenly over the top of the loaf.
Bake for 60 to 70 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F. Let the meatloaf rest in the pan for 10 minutes before slicing.
