Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for 5 minutes until it softens.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the drained white beans, crushed tomatoes, and vegetable broth to the pot. Stir to combine.
Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Use the back of a spoon to gently mash some of the beans against the side of the pot for a thicker texture.
Remove the pot from the heat. Stir in the chopped basil along with salt and black pepper to taste.
